Sessa (<em>The Holdovers<\/em>) portrays a 19-year-old Bourdain in the film that also stars <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/emilia-jones\/\" id=\"auto-tag_emilia-jones_1\" data-tag=\"emilia-jones\">Emilia Jones<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/leo-woodall\/\" id=\"auto-tag_leo-woodall_1\" data-tag=\"leo-woodall\">Leo Woodall<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/antonio-banderas\/\" id=\"auto-tag_antonio-banderas_1\" data-tag=\"antonio-banderas\">Antonio Banderas<\/a>, Dagmara Dominczyk, Rich Sommers and Stavros Halkias. <\/p>\n<p> \tFocusing on a period of Bourdain\u2019s life that predates his fame as a celebrity chef and acclaimed author, <em>Tony<\/em> centers on the titular character (Sessa) as he takes a job at a restaurant on Cape Cod and experiences a transformative summer. <\/p>\n<p> \t\u201cI\u2019m actually not a fucking cook,\u201d Sessa clarifies in the trailer. \u201cI\u2019m a writer. Johnson, Miller, Tim White and Trevor White serve as producers.<\/p>\n<p> \tBourdain\u2019s estate released a statement offering insight into the decision to give their blessing. \u201cWe chose to support <em>Tony<\/em> because it is not a standard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/biopic\/\" id=\"auto-tag_biopic_1\" data-tag=\"biopic\">biopic<\/a> and doesn\u2019t attempt to summarize a life,\u201d the statement read about the cooking personality who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/anthony-bourdain-dead-cnn-chef-dies-at-61-1118371\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">died in June 2018<\/a> at age 61. \u201cGuided by the vision of director Matt Johnson, the film depicts one transformative summer in 1975 in Provincetown, Massachusetts. It is an interpretation, as that part of Tony\u2019s life will always remain somewhat unknown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \tThe message continued, \u201cWe appreciate the portrayal of Tony\u2019s complexity, his intellectual appetite and his conviction \u2014 qualities that eventually took him around the globe and endeared him to so many.
