Every teen pregnancy is an indictment of how our society fails its children.<\/p>\n

Unexpected shines a spotlight upon these failures, even while being a problem unto itself.<\/p>\n

The breakout stars of the reality series have been Bella Vaughn and Hunter Johnson. She was 14 and he was 12<\/a> when they conceived.<\/p>\n

Now they\u2019re children who share a child. And Bella reports that they are also engaged to marry.<\/p>\n

We\u2019d say that congratulations are in order, but \u2026<\/h2>\n

16-year-old Bella has taken to TikTok<\/a> to announce that her 14-year-old boyfriend is now her 14-year-old fiance.<\/p>\n

She set the two-photo slideshow to \u201cMom of Boys.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the left slide, Bella shows off a promise ring that Hunter gave her, writing: \u201cNow the best thing about my left hand \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

In the right photo, she showed an engagement ring and what appears to be baby Wesley\u2019s hand playing with it.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026 is a ring on it,\u201d Bella wrote, \u201cfrom the right man.\u201d<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t misunderstand \u2014 even though Bella wrote \u201cright man,\u201d she\u2019s not referring to a man.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s referring to Hunter, who is a 14-year-old child. Just as Bella herself is a 16-year-old child.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom promise ring to engagement ring,\u201d Bella captioned, \u201cI\u2019ll forever love you Hunter.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cWesley and I can\u2019t wait to spend the rest of our lives together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bella captioned the post \u201c15andpregnant,\u201d \u201cfiance,\u201d and a misspelled \u201cengagment<\/em>.\u201d She presumably meant \u201cengagement.\u201d<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t think that child engagements are a good idea, she does not want to hear it<\/h2>\n

Famously, Bella has lamented that producers on Unexpected <\/em>did not do more to prepare her for or protect her from social media vitriol that she received after doing the show.<\/p>\n

(Please do not send her hate. Yes, she is immature<\/a> and is making mistakes. That\u2019s because she is a child. As we said, her situation is an indictment of society\u2019s failure to equip kids to deal with life.)<\/p>\n

With that in mind, it is no surprise that Bella has limited who can reply to her TikTok news.<\/p>\n

If you disapprove of children getting engaged, that\u2019s very reasonable.<\/p>\n

But Bella does not want to hear it. And, honestly, what good could trying to reason with her accomplish?<\/p>\n

There is a silver lining to this news.<\/p>\n

Even in Arkansas, you must be at least 17 years old to marry. And yes, that\u2019s even with parental consent.<\/p>\n

(In fact, if if a 19-year-old Bella and 17-year-old Hunter are still together, Hunter\u2019s legal guardians will need to sign off for him to be allowed to marry her.)<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not really clear why there\u2019s any mechanism by which a child can marry, but we suppose that we should be thankful that these particular state laws do not allow a younger threshold.<\/p>\n

Bella is 16. Hunter is 14. Wesley is a toddler. All three of them could go through a lot of changes before that fateful day arrives.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
