The hills may be alive with the sound of music, but in <em>The\u00a0Meltdown (El Deshielo)<\/em>,\u00a0the mountains are alive with potential horror that is not immediately obvious.  <\/p>\n<p> \tThe sophomore directorial feature of Chilean actress <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/motu-maeva-wins-at-chiles-831216\/\">Manuela Martelli\u00a0<\/a>(<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/god-will-not-help-film-interview-hana-jusic-rebellion-sheep-1236350607\/\"><em>God Will Not Help<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/general-news\/future-il-futuro-sundance-review-415636\/\"><em>The Future<\/em><\/a>) explores hidden truths and trauma on the personal, family and bigger political levels.  \t<\/p>\n<p> \tThe movie,\u00a0world premiering in the Cannes Film Festival\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/cannes-2026-selection-full-list-film-festival-lineup-1236553671\/\">Un Certain Regard<\/a>\u00a0section, marks Martelli\u2019s first writer-director effort in the Official Selection. Her <em>Chile \u201876<\/em> had debuted in the Cannes Directors\u2019 Fortnight.<\/p>\n<p> \tMaya O\u2019Rourke plays young protagonist In\u00e9s, Maia Rae Domagala is skier Hanna, 15, and Saskia Rosendahl plays her mother. \u201cChile, 1992. Staying at her grandparents\u2019 remote hotel near an Andean ski resort, In\u00e9s (9) befriends Hanna (15), a German skier,\u201d reads the synopsis for the film. \u201cWhen Hanna vanishes without a trace, the search for her exposes hidden truths.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \tLes Films du Losange is handling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/international\/\" id=\"auto-tag_international_1\" data-tag=\"international\">international<\/a> sales on <em>The Meltdown<\/em>, which is a Chile, United States, Spain, Mexico co-production. The movie was produced by Ronda Cine, Cinema Inutile and Wood Producciones, with co-production from Elastica Films, Piano and Fundaci\u00f3n R\u00edo. <\/p>\n<p> \tThe film is the first fiction feature by a Chilean female director to be included in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/un-certain-regard\/\" id=\"auto-tag_un-certain-regard_1\" data-tag=\"un-certain-regard\">Un Certain Regard<\/a> lineup. \u201cIt feels like achieving something very important for the film, and also something that could encourage future female directors in Chile,\u201d says Martelli.\u00a0  \t<\/p>\n<p> \tIn a film clip, which <em>THR<\/em> can now exclusively premiere, In\u00e9s and Hanna, talk about the snow, the mountains, the border and even the military. It feels like not only the snow weighs heavily on the region and people\u2019s minds.
