Hart\u2019s frequent co-star Johnson made an appearance late in the show, walking in to lively rock music, very pro wrestling-style, as he joked: \u201cI\u2019ve been waiting an entire life where I could come to a Kevin Hart roast, have fun and just talk shit.\u201d  \t<\/p>\n<p> \tAs Johnson complimented Hart\u2019s wife, Eniko, who was in the audience, Hart playfully admonished Johnson and asked him to stop. <\/p>\n<p> \tJohnson also brought up the fact that both he and Hart recently lost their dads, noting his famous wrestler dad was built like a \u201ctank\u201d and then showed a photo of his own dad and Hart\u2019s side by side with very different physiques. He also showed a photo of Hart\u2019s dad\u2019s mug shot; Hart joked that whomever agreed to show the photo should be fired.<\/p>\n<p> \tJohnson got serious for a moment, telling Hart \u201cI love you, brother.\u201d He then quipped he got a tattoo of Kevin on his privates: \u201cIt\u2019s a life-size tattoo.\u201d Johnson joked that he would show Eniko later, prompting faux indignation from Hart. \u201cShe\u2019s actually already seen it,\u201d Johnson said.  \t<\/p>\n<p> \tJohnson then took Hart\u2019s seat, imploring him to sit on Johnson\u2019s knee as they shared a toast. The former WWE star asked the crowd if Hart should, but the comic adamantly refused. \u201cTo brotherhood, to friendship, and I am always in your corner,\u201d Johnson said, as they each said \u201cI love you\u201d to the other.<\/p>\n<p> \tAnother big surprise was the appearance of comedian Katt Williams, with whom Hart has famously feuded with over the years. Williams slyly said that he only took the gig for the money: \u201cI\u2019m surprised they invited me; that\u2019s how little star power you have. They had to invite your enemies. I said, \u2018I hate him.\u2019 They said, \u2018Come anyway.\u2019 \u2026 I won an Emmy Award but this is gonna be my best acting tonight as I pretend you are a GOAT.\u201d Among Williams\u2019 jokes:<\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cKevin, you\u2019re going to hear some things tonight. Those are called punchlines.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>On why he and Hart haven\u2019t gotten along: \u201cPrivately, this motherfucker stole everything from me. Before he saw my act, he was a 6-foot-3 white man.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cYes, I said some things I\u2019d like to take back. Some things were misunderstood. I said Kevin was a Hollywood puppet. What I mean was the head of Netflix literally had his hand up Kevin\u2019s ass telling him what to do.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>One word Hart doesn\u2019t say in his act, which starts with an N: \u201cNo.\u201d Williams joked that many of Hart\u2019s roles were ones that Williams passed on: \u201cIf you\u2019re gonna see a Kevin Hart movie, do it in a Black theater so you can hear words like, \u2018I want my money back.&#8217;\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cSeriously, how can you not love Kevin? Only two people haven\u2019t: me and his father.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cKevin was at a bunch of Diddy parties. But in his defense, it was only because Diddy thought Kevin was 10.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI could go on all night hating on Kevin Hart. I have perfected it. But at the end of the day, you have to look in the mirror and say, do I really want to have beef with the rabbit Snowball from <em>The Secret Life of Pets 2<\/em>? Yes, I do.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<p> \tHart then jumped up and addressed Williams directly: \u201cWhoa, whoa, whoa, Katt, wait, hold on. Just give me one fucking minute. Me and this man have been at odds for years and years. You coming out here is quite the fucking surprise. But Katt, I can sit and watch and laugh because I\u2019m a fucking fan, OK? Katt, we have an opportunity in real time, this is live television, to put our fucking beef behind us. I am offering you an olive branch of peace. I want to be your brother; I want to be your friend. Katt, can we move on?\u201d The two then embraced as the crowd rose to their feet. (More on this later.)<\/p>\n<p> \tTaylor, who will star with Hart in Netflix\u2019s upcoming comedy film <em>72 Hours<\/em>, was among the other surprise guests. She read a letter about why she couldn\u2019t make the roast in person. The recent Oscar nominee joked, \u201cI would never say anything so hateful as I starred in <em>One Battle After Another, <\/em>while Kevin has starred in one bomb after another.\u201d Another surprise turned out to be Lizzo, who jokingly thanked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/chelsea-handler\/\" id=\"auto-tag_chelsea-handler_1\" data-tag=\"chelsea-handler\">Chelsea Handler<\/a> for Hart\u2019s success.  \t<\/p>\n<p> \tWith The Roots serving as house band for the night, Usher opened the show by performing songs including a parody of his hit song \u201cBurn,\u201d in which he changed the lyrics to suggest that Hart was no longer funny after becoming a big star. Lyrics included \u201cI watched your last stand-up, not a single funny part\u201d and \u201clook at what money did to you.\u201d An indignant Hart stood up and spewed expletives at Usher, who ended his performance by telling Hart he\u2019d need some \u201cgood luck\u201d to get through the night.<\/p>\n<p> \tServing as master of ceremonies for the show, Shane Gillis joked about being the \u201cextremely white host\u201d of the night and thanked Netflix \u201cfor choosing me to host this celebration of Black excellence.\u201d He also warned that some of his jokes would address Hart\u2019s race and diminutive height (or both at once). A few of his barbs:<\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cWhen you see Kevin stand next to his Black friends, he looks like a period at the end of a sentence.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHis ancestors came to America in a slave ship in a bottle.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHis mother worked at the University of Pennsylvania and father was one of the California raisins. I\u2019m just joking around. He wasn\u2019t raising anyone. He was on cocaine, which is more respectable than not being there because you\u2019re filming <em>Jumanji 3.<\/em>\u201c<\/li>\n<li>\u201cKevin is so short, you\u2019d have to lynch him from a bonsai tree.\u201d (Hart, who was laughing throughout, shook Gillis\u2019 hand after that one.)<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<p> \tRoast veteran Jeff Ross, who came out dressed like Hart\u2019s idol Eddie Murphy, who wasn\u2019t in attendance, also took aim at Hart\u2019s height and his dad\u2019s cocaine addiction:<\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cThe world fell in love with you when Michael Jackson dangled you over that balcony.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Hart is \u201cthe man who put \u2018elf\u2019 in Philadelphia.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cYour dad was a street hustler and addicted to crack cocaine. So I guess being dependent on The Rock runs in the family.\u201d <\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<p> \t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/tom-brady\/\" id=\"auto-tag_tom-brady_1\" data-tag=\"tom-brady\">Tom Brady<\/a>, who was the subject of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/tom-brady-roast-best-jokes-gisele-deflategate-crypto-1235890602\/\">his own Netflix roast<\/a> two years ago, jokingly asked how \u201cthe \u2018GOAT roast\u2019 went from me to you. I won seven Super Bowls. Kevin has been in two <em>Ride Along <\/em>movies. I won five Super Bowl MVP awards. Kevin, you\u2019re the third-most-famous person in <em>Jumanji<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \tBrady also took shots at the list of folks waiting to roast Hart onstage. \u201cLook at this pathetic dais. I guess it wouldn\u2019t be a Kevin Hart project if it wasn\u2019t a shitty sequel. You got Sheryl Underwood, Big Jay Oakerson, Na\u2019im Lynn. Who the fuck are these people and how did they get here? I thought they shut down Spirit Airlines.\u201d\u00a0Brady then took aim at Chelsea Handler, saying: \u201cWhat happened to Nikki Glaser? She looks like shit. Oh, my bad, sorry Chelsea.\u201d\u00a0  \t<\/p>\n<p> \tLynn joked to Hart that \u201cthe only thing you got in common with Tom Brady is you both love your career more than your wife,\u201d referring to Brady\u2019s ex Giselle Bundchen. He also made a lot of jokes at Handler\u2019s expense, nothing that she is \u201caging at the speed of white\u201d and would be well-suited to star in a <em>Golden Girls<\/em> revival as \u201cBetty White now,\u201d noting the star is dead.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> \tWhen she took the stage, Handler noted that she\u2019d given Hart a weekly spot on her late-night show <em>Chelsea Lately<\/em> when he was still an up-and-coming comic, joking that she was going to \u201csomething we don\u2019t see white people do enough of in Hollywood: take credit for a Black person\u2019s career.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> \t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/pete-davidson\/\" id=\"auto-tag_pete-davidson_1\" data-tag=\"pete-davidson\">Pete Davidson<\/a> also took the stage, aiming his jokes at the comedians on the panel, mostly sparing Hart. Turning to Hart, he asked: \u201cWhat can you say about Kevin that hasn\u2019t already been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/tourettes-bafta-film-awards-bbc-john-davidson-sinners-1236512321\/\">yelled out by a guy with Tourette\u2019s at the BAFTAs<\/a>\u201c? Davidson ended with an earnest note, thanking Hart: \u201cI love you very much. You\u2019ve always been super nice to me. \u2026 You\u2019re a very hardworking person, and when it\u2019s all said and done, in the comedy world, it\u2019s most important to be remembered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \tAs is customary for the roasts, the center of attention took the stage last, introduced by Johnson. Hart shared that he\u2019d previously told all the roasters, \u201cI want you to go as hard as you want, because I get the mic last.\u201d He said he was going to take \u201craw\u201d shots at all the roasters.<\/p>\n<p> \tHart also revealed that he didn\u2019t realize Johnson was going to be there Sunday night. \u201cHe shocked me,\u201d Hart said, before joking that Johnson\u2019s recent weight loss was not because of Ozempic but instead was due to \u201cAIDS.\u201d Hart also joked that Johnson wasn\u2019t aware he was half Black and wished he\u2019d do more Black-themed films: \u201cI\u2019m sick of all this Hawaiian shit,\u201d he said, referring to Johnson\u2019s role in the <em>Moana<\/em> franchise.  \t<\/p>\n<p> \tRegarding Williams, Hart took some shots at the comedian and at first called into question whether he was serious about ending their feud: \u201cEverybody has said tonight I can\u2019t act. Kevin cannot act. I want you to go back and look at that moment when I shook Katt\u2019s hands, and I said I wanted us to be friends. Some of the best fucking acting I\u2019ve ever done in my carer. I did not mean one word of what I said. Fuck Katt Williams. Katt Wiliams is a motherfucking liar. Katt has lied on me about so much shit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \tHe continued: \u201cI haven\u2019t\u2019 been to no fucking Diddy parties. I went to one party. The only reason Katt knew I was there was because he was there too!\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \tHart also addressed Williams\u2019 claims that he turned down nearly every film that Hart ended up starring in: \u201cYou\u2019re telling me you turned down\u201d \u2014 here Hart quickly went through his film credits \u2014\u00a0\u201c[all of it] so you could do a cameo in <em>Norbit<\/em>? Is that what you\u2019re telling me, Katt?\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \tBut then Hart admitted he had been serious about ending the feud: \u201cOn a serious note, I love the fact that that man showed up tonight.\u00a0I meant what I said: that beef is over. Katt and I are friends from today moving forward.\u201d  \t<\/p>\n<p> \tThe event also featured Draymond Green; Tony Hinchcliffe, who suggested that one topic that was off-limits was Hart\u2019s kids; Regina Hall; Katt Williams; and Venus and Serena Williams.
