And I think, for once, I really enjoyed watching my film,\u201d he laughed. \u201cLooking at these beautiful actors and great photography \u2014\u00a0everything. Thank you.\u201d  \t<\/p>\n<p> \tPawlikowski walked the red carpet with his star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/sandra-huller-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sandra-huller-2_1\" data-tag=\"sandra-huller-2\">Sandra H\u00fcller<\/a>, who was wearing a knock-out Liza Minnelli-esque feather wrap, Hanns Zischler\u00a0and\u00a0August Diehl, as well as supporting cast members Devid Striesow and Anna Madeley. Unsurprisingly, H\u00fcller, a Cannes darling, was awarded a huge applause ahead of the premiere.<\/p>\n<p> \tThe German-language film explores the relationship between Thomas Mann (Zischler) and his daughter Erika (H\u00fcller) on their return to Germany after the war and self-imposed exile. They travel through West and East Germany as Mann is lauded by both the communist and capitalist governments. The journey turns into a reckoning between father and daughter in their former homeland. The cast also includes Diehl (<em>A Hidden Life<\/em>), Striesow (<em>All Quiet on the Western Front<\/em>) and Madeley (<em>In Bruges<\/em>).  \t<\/p>\n<p> \tPawlikowski was last in Cannes with <em>Cold War<\/em> in 2018, like <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/fatherland\/\" id=\"auto-tag_fatherland_1\" data-tag=\"fatherland\">Fatherland<\/a><\/em> a black-and-white period drama exploring the trauma of recent European history. The film won the best director prize and went on to secure a best director nomination at the Oscars. Pawlikowski\u2019s <em>Ida<\/em> won the best <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/international\/\" id=\"auto-tag_international_1\" data-tag=\"international\">international<\/a> feature Oscar in 2015. Pawlikowski co-wrote the <em>Fatherland<\/em> screenplay with German director Hendrik Handloegten (<em>Love in Thoughts<\/em>, <em>Babylon Berlin<\/em>) and re-teamed with his <em>Ida<\/em> and <em>Cold War<\/em> cinematographer Lukasz \u017bal.<\/p>\n<p> \tH\u00fcller was the queen of Cannes three years ago, starring in Justine Triet\u2019s Palme d\u2019Or winning <em>\u8ee2\u5012\u306e\u89e3\u5256\u5b66 <\/em>and Jonathan Glazer\u2019s <em>Zone of Interest<\/em>, a one-two punch that catapulted the German actress to international fame and Hollywood projects. She is already having a phenomonal year. H\u00fcller won the best performance award at this year\u2019s Berlinale for her starring turn in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/sandra-huller-rose-film-interview-playing-a-man-berlin-2026-1236492630\/\">Markus Schleinzer\u2019s drama <em>Rose<\/em><\/a> and starred alongside Ryan Gosling in Phil Lord and Christopher Miller\u2019s sci-fi comedy blockbuster <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/project-hail-mary-review-ryan-gosling-sandra-huller-1236522665\/\">Project Hail Mary<\/a><\/em>. Following <em>Fatherland<\/em>, she stars, together with Tom Cruise, in Alejandro G.
