UPDATE:<\/strong> A coroner\u2019s report obtained by TMZ<\/a> has confirmed that the rapper \u2014 whose real name was Janarious Mykel Wheeler \u2014 died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the left side of the head shortly after being involved in a car accident on Interstate 85 south of Hapeville, Georgia.<\/p>\n

The results of a toxicology report are still pending.<\/p>\n

We have tragic news to report from the world of music today.<\/p>\n

Lil Poppa \u2014 the up-and-coming rapper out of Jacksonville, Florida \u2014 has passed away.<\/p>\n

He was just 25 years old.<\/p>\n

Word of the artist\u2019s passing comes courtesy of the Fulton County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office in Georgia.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the ME reportedly confirmed the news to TMZ<\/a> on Wednesday. His death has now been ruled a suicide by self-inflicted gunshot wound<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rapper Trap Beckham later verified the news of Poppa\u2019s death in a Facebook post:<\/p>\n

\u201cThis one hit different. RIP to the chosen one,\u201d Beckham wrote. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe city is truly not the same. @lilpoppa been a real one. A talent that most of seen from the jump. DUVAL LEGEND.\u201d<\/p>\n

News of Poppa\u2019s passing comes just days after he released a new song, titled \u201cOut of Town Bae.\u201d<\/p>\n

Less than a week old, the music video for the song has already racked up nearly a quarter million views on YouTube alone.<\/p>\n

Poppa was signed to Yo Gotti\u2019s Collective Music Group (CMG), and he\u2019s released several hit songs over the last few years, including \u201cLove & War,\u201d \u201cMind Over Matter,\u201d and \u201cHAPPY TEARS.\u201d<\/p>\n

His latest album \u201cAlmost Normal\u201d was released in August of last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cPoppa tell me it ain\u2019t true,\u201d wrote one devastated Instagram follower.<\/p>\n

\u201cPoppa please say something this can\u2019t be happening,\u201d another wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou ain\u2019t leave me like this \u2026 ain\u2019t NO WAY,\u201d a third commented.<\/p>\n

\u201cPLEASE CLEAR THE RUMORS,\u201d a fourth commenter begged.<\/p>\n

Sadly, the rumors have now been confirmed, and Lil Poppa is no longer with us.<\/p>\n

He is just one of several rappers who have tragically died young<\/a> in the past year.<\/p>\n

Our thoughts go out to his loved ones as they begin to try and process this tragedy.<\/p>\n
