\tNetflix is going on a getaway.<\/p>\n

\tThe steaming giant has reteamed with Philip Barantini<\/a>, the director of its acclaimed mini-series \u601d\u6625\u671f<\/a><\/em>, to make a new version of the 1972 Steve McQueen classic action movie The Getaway<\/em>. <\/p>\n

\tPeter Craig, who wrote the Ben Affleck crime movie The Town<\/em> and whose credits include The Batman <\/em>and Bad Boys for Life,<\/em> will write the script. Craig, who is coming off producing Netflix\u2019s hit adaptation Remarkably Bright Creatures<\/a><\/em>, will also produce with partner Bryan Unkeless via the duo\u2019s Night Owl Stories. The company has a first-look deal with Netflix. \t<\/p>\n

\tAlso producing the feature are Andrew Mittman (Wednesday<\/em>) for 1.21 along with Barantini and Sam Beddoe via their banner, It\u2019s All Made Up. Mittman was key in unlocking the rights to Getaway<\/em> and brought it to Barantini and Craig. <\/p>\n

\tThe original movie starred McQueen and Ali McGraw in a twisty two-handed as an ex-con and his wife who rob a Texas bank as a condition for the man\u2019s release. After a deadly double-cross, the couple is forced to go on the run as spurned thieves, violent thugs and the police all give chase across an overheated state.<\/p>\n

\tWalter Hill, who would later go on to direct action classics The Warriors <\/em>and 48 Hrs<\/em>., wrote the original script, adapting the 1958 novel by Jim Thompson, and directed by Sam Peckinpah, the macho filmmaker behind The Wild Bunch<\/em>. The movie was remade in 1994 in a version, starring Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\tBarantini began his entertainment career as an actor in series such as Band of Brothers<\/em>. After transitioning to directing with his feature debut Villain<\/em> in 2020, he made his breakthrough with the drama Boiling Point<\/em>, which earned multiple BAFTA nominations and introduced the stylistic format of shooting it in one long take. That format reached its apotheosis with \u601d\u6625\u671f<\/em>, the drama he created with Stephen Graham that has gone on to become not only a viewer sensation but one of the most exalted pieces of television of the last decade.<\/p>\n

\tBarantini, who is repped by CAA, Untitled, Independent and Johnson Shapiro, will next direct Enola Holmes 3 <\/em>for Netflix.<\/p>\n
