\tWhile television stars and creators are busy campaigning ahead of the approaching Emmy voting window<\/a>, the TV Academy<\/a> spent an evening handing out awards to some special programs on Wednesday. <\/p>\n

\tThis year\u2019s Television Academy Honors ceremony recognized seven projects that have harnessed the power of TV to create positive change around the world, with \u601d\u6625\u671f<\/em>, Deaf President Now!<\/em>, Dying for Sex<\/em>, Heated Rivalry<\/a>,<\/em> Seen & Heard: The History of Black Television <\/em>and South Park<\/a><\/em> all being recognized. <\/p>\n

\tSouth Park<\/em> co-creator Trey Parker<\/a> made a rare Hollywood appearance to accept the award, teasing \u201cafter doing the show for 30 years, I just wanted to say to the Television Academy, like, what took you so fucking long?\u201d \t<\/p>\n

\tHe went on to explain how he\u2019s often told that he and partner Matt Stone<\/a> are fearless for these days devoting so much of their animated comedy to mocking Donald Trump<\/a>, which has created a ratings bonanza\u00a0and reinvigorated the show while also\u00a0angering the White House<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\tParker shouted out his writing staff for being brave alongside them, \u201cespecially this year<\/a> when we started saying like, \u2018OK, so this is the show we\u2019re going to do,\u2019 and they\u2019re like, \u2018Oh, OK \u2014 that\u2019s gonna really piss some people off.’\u201d He noted that throughout the show\u2019s three-decade run, \u201cthere\u2019s always groups telling you what you can and can\u2019t say; now that group has a military and so it is scarier. They have to be fearless.\u201d<\/p>\n

\tParker was also joined on stage by his daughter, Betty, who has been a voice on the series since she was two years old. He aimed the rest of his speech directly to her, saying, \u201cI know I kind of forced you into this but don\u2019t ever be afraid and don\u2019t ever let people tell you what you can and can\u2019t say, and what you can and can\u2019t think. You\u2019re always going to find people that agree with you, and you\u2019ll get one of these, maybe,\u201d he joked while holding his new trophy. \t<\/p>\n

\tPadma Lakshmi served as host for the event, where Seen and Heard<\/em> EP Issa Rae and Deaf President Now!<\/em> co-director Nyle DiMarco made appearances. Heated Rivalry<\/em> creator Jacob Tierney<\/a> also stopped by to accept recognition of his gay hockey super-hit, teasing there was never an expectation for awards attention \u201cwhen you option pornography.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
