\tThe internet loves Off Campus<\/a><\/em>\u2019 lovable party boy Dean Di Laurentis, that much has been made clear in the past week since the college-set series premiered. <\/p>\n

\tDean, played by 28-year-old Stephen Kalyn<\/a>, is the best friend and hockey teammate to the season\u2019s leading man, Belmont Cameli\u2019s Garrett Graham.<\/a> There\u2019s more to the free-spirited hockey player than meets the eye, however, which becomes evident in the show\u2019s sixth episode. <\/p>\n

\tThe episode focuses on the budding romance between Dean and Allie Hayes, the best friend to Garrett\u2019s better half and season one\u2019s leading lady, Hannah Wells, played by Ella Bright<\/a>. It\u2019s also a great barometer to see where the character Dean is at when viewers find him in the story. \u201cI\u2019m Six Flags, baby,\u201d Kalyn\u2019s Dean tells Abdalla\u2019s Allie in episode six as the pair share a joint. \u201cEverybody wants a ride. They come for a good time, not a long time.\u201d \t<\/p>\n

\tKalyn points to a notion Dean has about his life in Elle Kennedy\u2019s Off Campus <\/em>books<\/a> that the show is based on<\/a> \u2014 he\u2019s just doing what he wants. \u201cThat\u2019s a line that I\u2019ve always kept with me for every scene in season one,\u201d the actor tells The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> on a recent Zoom.<\/p>\n

\tDean\u2019s having the time of life, as Kalyn sees it, and he didn\u2019t expect what was to come next. \u201cTo catch feelings for Allie was an interesting turning point too for me. I learned a lot of things about him through that process of him meeting somebody that he genuinely [likes],\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cDean always gets what he wants, but Allie puts him in his place,\u201d Kalyn says. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t quite understand that, but he\u2019s attracted to it. He\u2019s following that feeling as the show progresses in season one until he\u2019s like, \u2018I like you, and I\u2019m done with this. I just want to be with you, Allie.\u2019\u201d \t<\/p>\n

\tKalyn loved getting Dean to that point. \u201cIt\u2019s fun to do party scenes \u2014 it\u2019s fun to have fun \u2014 but it\u2019s great to get to the heartfelt moments,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

\tDean, much like Garrett\u2019s other close friends and teammates John Logan (Antonio Cipriano) and John Tucker (Jalen Thomas Brooks), leads another novel in the Off Campus <\/em>series. The Score<\/em>, the third book in Kennedy\u2019s string of novels, centers around Dean and Allie\u2019s romance.<\/p>\n

\tWhile Off Campus<\/em> intends to adopt the Bridgerton <\/em>model of handing over the main character mantle to a new couple each season, it\u2019s unclear which of Kennedy\u2019s books season two will cover. Regardless, Kalyn, Cipirano, Brooks and Abdalla are all aware that their time is coming eventually, as long as the show continues to be renewed. <\/p>\n

\t\u201cI\u2019m just so grateful to learn from Ella and Belmont and watch those two great, phenomenal actors lead season one,\u201d Kalyn says.<\/p>\n

\tThe book series\u00a0Off Campus<\/em>, which begins with\u00a0The Deal<\/em>, follows a new-but-connected couple in each book. The show, which follows\u00a0The Deal<\/em>\u2019s storyline, plans to keep that model.\u00a0Season one dives headfirst into the age-old romantic trope of fake dating with music student Hannah Wells, who, in true hockey fashion, is often called Wellsy by her love interest, Garrett Graham. Graham is the son of a professional hockey legend and captain of Briar University\u2019s hockey team.<\/p>\n

\tLouisa Levy serves as the creator and co-showrunner, executive producing alongside fellow showrunner Gina Fattore. Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen and James Seidman executive produce for Temple Hill. Leanna Billings of Billings Productions and Neal Flaherty also serve as executive producers on the series. \t<\/p>\n
