As you\u2019ve likely heard by now, Stephen Colbert hosted the final episode of The Late Show<\/em><\/a> <\/em>on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

Many believe that CBS\u2019 decision to cancel the show was politically motivated, as Colbert often cracked jokes at the expense of the White House, and the network\u2019s parent company, Paramount, had recently been acquired by the Trump-supporting Ellison family.<\/p>\n

Paramount has maintained that the decision was a purely financial one, but President Trump made it clear that he couldn\u2019t be happier to see Colbert bid adieu.<\/p>\n

\u201cColbert is finally finished at CBS. Amazing that he lasted so long! No talent, no ratings, no life,\u201d Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform today, adding:<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was like a dead person. You could take any person off of the street and they would be better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he\u2019s finally gone!\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s parting shot at Colbert didn\u2019t come as much of a surprise.<\/p>\n

In fact, the president basically announced in advance that he would be dunking on the comic following his final show (probably not a situation the framers of the Constitution ever envisioned!).<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll have a message at a later date,\u201d Trump told reporters earlier this week.<\/p>\n

This, of course, is not the first time that Trump has lashed out at a late night host.<\/p>\n

He and members of his family and administration have repeatedly called for Jimmy Kimmel\u2019s ABC show to be canceled<\/a> in the wake of jokes Kimmel has mde about Trump.<\/p>\n

In a statement to People<\/a><\/em>, Colbert suggested that it was beneath the president\u2019s dignity to fixate on jokes made by late night hosts.<\/p>\n

Kimmel was one of many TV personalities to speak out in Colbert\u2019s defense after CBS announced plans to cancel The Late Show<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re clowns,\u201d Colbert said of late-night hosts in general. \u201cHow much does it diminish the office of the Presidency to even notice what we say?\u201d<\/p>\n

Colbert\u2019s show is set to be replaced by Comics Unleashed<\/em>, a standup showcase created by media mogul Byron Allen.<\/p>\n

Trump has yet to remark on Allen of the network\u2019s scheduling decision.<\/p>\n
