Even if you don\u2019t watch Euphoria<\/em>, by now you\u2019ve probably heard about Sydney Sweeney\u2019s OnlyFans storyline<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Showrunner Sam Levinson obviously knew that he would get a ton of free publicity by writing scenes in which the most famous sex symbol of the 2020s strips down in increasingly outrageous scenarios.<\/p>\n

But Cassie Howard\u2019s efforts to become the queen of adult content<\/a> are now drawing criticism from an unexpected source \u2014 actual OnlyFans creators.<\/p>\n

Speaking with Page Six<\/a>, OnlyFans creator and podcast host Gracie Canaan stated that she thinks there\u2019s \u201cdanger\u201d in \u201cromanticizing this job as overnight wealth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Canaan noted that her line of work is not for everyone, explaining that online sex work \u201ccan be just as dangerous as in-person.\u201d<\/p>\n

She noted that when creators share explicit photos and videos, they\u2019re \u201cout there\u201d in the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople can use it to blackmail you,\u201d she said, before quipping, \u201cWow, I sound like a \u2018don\u2019t do drugs\u2019 PSA!\u201d<\/p>\n

She also noted that it\u2019s not as easy to rise to the top of the profession, as Cassie\u2019s storyline might lead some to believe.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is running a business. It is marketing, it is sales, it is strategy. I think people don\u2019t understand the business savvy required,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Gracie also criticized the fact that Cassie\u2019s new career created conflict in her marriage, noting that many creators \u201care partnered, or married, or have kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is another job. It can be really fun and rewarding . . . But, people don\u2019t realize the mundanity,\u201d<\/p>\n

Canaan also addressed the fact that celebrities such as Shannon Elizabeth have been launching OnlyFans pages<\/a> in recent months.<\/p>\n

She notes that such big-name creators might be taking money away from people who rely on OnlyFans to put food on the table.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe downside can be that it feels like celebrities are playing make believe in what is a lot of people\u2019s very serious livelihoods,\u201d she explained. <\/p>\n
