ready to roll.<\/p>\n<p> \tFestival directors Pierre Agius and Mark Adams have assembled a selection, anchored by the theme \u201cBeyond Together,\u201d\u00a0that includes recent films from directors like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/steven-soderbergh\/\" id=\"auto-tag_steven-soderbergh_1\" data-tag=\"steven-soderbergh\">Steven Soderbergh<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/alice-winocour\/\" id=\"auto-tag_alice-winocour_1\" data-tag=\"alice-winocour\">Alice Winocour<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/gus-van-sant\/\" id=\"auto-tag_gus-van-sant_1\" data-tag=\"gus-van-sant\">Gus Van Sant<\/a>, <a Colman Domingo\u00a0and more.  \t<\/p>\n<p> \tSet to take place on the island\u2019s capital city of Valletta from June 21-28, the Mediterrane Film Festival has expanded from three to five strands with a total of 35 films selected: Big Screen Competition featuring the best of mainstream cinema, Mediterranean Competition featuring new cinema from the Mediterranean region with a spotlight on local stories and talent, Mare Nostrum for films with an environmental message, New World Cinema, and Malta Focus for specifically local films (shorts and features) that highlight island talent.<\/p>\n<p> \tThe Big Screen Competition will feature Soderbergh\u2019s art forgery drama, <em>The Christophers<\/em>, starring Ian McKellen and Michaela Coel, Alice Winocour\u2019s fashion drama <em>Couture<\/em> starring Jolie, Van Sant\u2019s hostage thriller <em>Dead Man\u2019s Wire<\/em> with Skarsgard and Domingo, the Charli XCX-fronted mockumentary <em>The Moment<\/em>, and Jenkin\u2019s drama <em>Rose of Nevada <\/em>starring MacKay and Turner, Ainouz\u2019s <em>Rosebush Pruning <\/em>starring Turner, Fanning, Anderson, Jamie Bell and Riley Keough, <em>Virginia Woolf\u2019s Night and Day <\/em>starring Haley Bennett, Jack Whitehall, Lily Allen, Jennifer Saunders and Timothy Spall, and Assayas\u2019 <em>The Wizard of the Kremlin<\/em> starring Dano, Vikander, Gelormini\u2019s <em>La Gioia<\/em>, Minos Papas\u2019s <em>Motherwitch<\/em>, Micha Wald\u2019s <em>A Survivor\u2019s Tale<\/em>, Yasser Shafiey\u2019s <em>Complaint No. 713317<\/em>, Maltese psychological drama <em>Vanitas<\/em>, set on the island of Gozo, and Sylvain Chomet\u2019s animated <em>A Magnificent Life<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p> \tThe New World Cinema section has drafted Kiah Roache-Turner\u2019s <em>Beast of War<\/em>, which was shot in Malta, Mario Martone\u2019s <em>Fuori<\/em>, Anders Thomas Jensen\u2019s <em>The Last Viking<\/em> starring Mads Mikkelsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Ben Wheatley\u2019s <em>Normal<\/em> starring Bob Odenkirk, <em>The Good Boy<\/em> (aka <em>Heel<\/em>) starring Stephen Graham, Anson Boon and Andrea Riseborough, Larry Yang\u2019s <em>The Shadow\u2019s Edge<\/em> with Jackie Chan and Tony Leung Ka-fai, James Lucas\u2019s <em>Moss &#038; Freud<\/em>, and Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard\u2019s <em>Broken English<\/em> documentary about Marianne Faithfull.<\/p>\n<p> \tThe Mare Nostrum section features Jeanie Finlay\u2019s <em>All Rivers Spill Their Stories to the Sea<\/em>, Valentin Paoli\u2019s <em>The Musician and the Whale<\/em>, Tamara Kotevska\u2019s <em>The Tale of Silyan<\/em>, Ed Sayers\u2019<em> Super Nature<\/em> and Sara Dosa\u2019s <em>Time and Water.<\/em><\/p>\n<p> \tCompetition titles will be screened by a jury of creatives tasked with selecting the winners of the Golden Bee Awards, which will be doled out at a gala on June 28. Ticket sales for all screenings will be donated to the local Maltese cancer charity Puttinu Cares.
