{"id":2479,"date":"2026-05-27T19:56:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-27T19:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsmag.live\/2026\/05\/27\/anna-kepner-stepbrother-accused-of-rape-murder-aboard-cruise-ship-won\/"},"modified":"2026-05-27T19:56:00","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T19:56:00","slug":"anna-kepner-stepbrother-accused-of-rape-murder-aboard-cruise-ship-won","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsmag.live\/ja\/2026\/05\/27\/anna-kepner-stepbrother-accused-of-rape-murder-aboard-cruise-ship-won\/","title":{"rendered":"Anna Kepner: Stepbrother Accused of Rape &#038; Murder Aboard Cruise Ship Won"},"content":{"rendered":"<article id=\"post-555915\">\n<div>\n<p><span><span>\u8aad\u66f8\u6642\u9593\uff1a <\/span> <span> 2<\/span> <span>\u5206<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Back in November of 2025, the world was shocked by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2025\/11\/anna-kepner-obsessed-stepbrother-named-suspect-in-teens-death-aboard-cruise-ship-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">brutal murder of Anna Kepner<\/a>, the 18-year-old who was found dead in her cabin aboard a Carnival cruise ship.<\/p>\n<p>In February, Kepner\u2019s stepbrother, 16-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2026\/02\/anna-kepner-stepbrother-charged-with-murder-in-case-of-teen-killed-on-carnival-cruise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Timothy Hudson, was charged with her murder<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2026\/04\/anna-kepner-was-raped-by-stepbrother-prior-to-murder-investigators-allege\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hudson raped Kepner <\/a>before killing her and attempting to hide her body under a bed \u2014 circumstances that make today\u2019s decision all the more surprising.<\/p>\n<figure><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"655\" alt=\"In an aerial view, Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas, billed as the world's largest cruise ship, heads out to sea for its second voyage from PortMiami on February 03, 2024, in Miami, Florida. \"   src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thehollywoodgossip.com\/uploads\/2026\/05\/GettyImages-1983703987-scaled.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-trellis-processed=\"1\"><figcaption>In an aerial view, Royal Caribbean\u2019s Icon of the Seas, billed as the world\u2019s largest cruise ship, heads out to sea for its second voyage from PortMiami on February 03, 2024, in Miami, Florida. <span> (Photo by Joe Raedle\/Getty Images)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A federal judge ruled Wednesday that Hudson will not be jailed while awaiting trial and will instead remain in the custody of a family member under strict conditions as his case moves forward.<\/p>\n<p>Hudson has been free since the death of his stepsister after initially being charged as a juvenile and released to live with his uncle because of his age. <\/p>\n<p>The situation changed dramatically in April, when a federal grand jury indicted Hudson as an adult, raising the possibility that he could be detained behind bars before trial.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Edwin Torres acknowledged the gravity of the allegations but ultimately decided against jailing the teen ahead of his trial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it were a 20-year-old under the exact circumstances I probably would have detained,\u201d Torres said during Wednesday\u2019s hearing, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/judge-declines-jail-teenager-accused-killing-stepsister-cruise-ship-rcna346373\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NBC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p> <iframe title=\"Anna Kepner's stepbrother, murder suspect released from federal custody\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-cookieconsent=\"statistics, marketing\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MPcCevIyjto?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen loading=\"lazy\"><\/iframe><div class=\"cookieconsent-optout-statistics cookieconsent-optout-marketing\">\u53d7\u3051\u5165\u308c\u3066\u304f\u3060\u3055\u3044 <a href=\"javascript:Cookiebot.renew()\">statistics, marketing<\/a> \u3053\u306e\u52d5\u753b\u3092\u8996\u8074\u3059\u308b\u306b\u306f\u30af\u30c3\u30ad\u30fc\u304c\u5fc5\u8981\u3067\u3059\u3002.<\/div> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe presumption would be we were just not going to take that chance. This is a different animal,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The judge explained that he considered the practical realities of detention, including the fact that Hudson\u2019s family lives several hundred miles away in Hernando County, making visitation difficult if he were held in Miami-Dade County.<\/p>\n<p>Federal prosecutors strongly objected to today\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>Government attorney Alejandra Lopez argued that Hudson represents \u201ca danger to the community,\u201d especially considering that two minors reportedly live in the uncle\u2019s home where he is currently staying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is needed to prove a danger? A second dead body?\u201d Lopez asked in court.<\/p>\n<p>Hudson\u2019s attorney, public defender Evan Kuhl, pushed back, arguing that the teen has followed every condition of his release for months and has shown no indication he poses a flight risk or danger to others.<\/p>\n<p>Hudson is only allowed to leave the house while accompanied by his aunt or uncle and is being electronically monitored by authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Anna and Hudson \u2014 whose parents married in December 2024 \u2014 had reportedly been sharing a cabin during the family vacation.<\/p>\n<p>Her body was discovered bruised, wrapped in a blanket and hidden beneath a bed behind life vests. The Miami-Dade medical examiner ruled her death a homicide caused by \u201cmechanical asphyxiation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the day Hudson was indicted as an adult, Anna\u2019s father, Chris Kepner, made his feelings painfully clear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJustice needs to be served,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hudson\u2019s trial could begin as early as September.
