\tOlivia Rodrigo<\/a> has addressed criticism of her wearing babydoll-style dresses, sharing her frustration with the online discourse on The New York Times<\/em>\u2018 Popcast<\/a><\/em> podcast where she said the controversy \u201creally shows how we really normalize pedophilia in our culture.\u201d<\/p>\n

\tThe Grammy Award winner wore the specific style of dress in the music<\/a> video for her new track \u201cDrop Dead\u201d and in recent live performances. The fashion<\/a> choice has sparked a conversation<\/a> online, with some criticizing the look. <\/p>\n

\t\u201cThat\u2019s been making me so upset. Not even for me. People can say whatever they want,\u201d Rodrigo said of the talk about her babydoll dresses. \u201cWhat\u2019s really disturbing is I feel like I actually have worn outfits that are maybe revealing on stage. I\u2019ve been on stage in a sparkly bra and little shorts, which is my right, that\u2019s fun, I felt cool and comfortable in that. And that wasn\u2019t inappropriate, but me fully covered up in a dress that people deemed to be childlike was inappropriate.\u201d \t<\/p>\n

\tRodrigo continued, \u201cI just think it really shows how we really normalize pedophilia in our culture. And also it\u2019s just this rhetoric that we\u2019re fed as girls since we\u2019re so little, which is, don\u2019t wear that because then a man is going to sexualize your body and it\u2019s your fault. It\u2019s so weird.\u201d<\/p>\n

\tThe \u201cDeja Vu\u201d singer explained that she wasn\u2019t trying to look \u201csexy,\u201d but that she rather \u201cfelt cool and comfortable\u201d in the dresses. She added that she felt the style emulated that of Kathleen Hanna or Courtney Love, two artists Rodrigo looks up to. <\/p>\n

\t\u201cI didn\u2019t think that I looked sexy in that at all. I was like, this is so cool. I feel I look like Kathleen Hanna or Courtney Love, all these people who are my heroes, and I felt cool and comfortable in it,\u201d she said. \u201cI just think if we start dressing in a way that\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, I don\u2019t want some fucking freak to think that I\u2019m sexy like a baby,\u2019 or some crazy thing like that, I think it\u2019s losing the plot a little bit. I\u2019m just very protective of younger women and girls, and I don\u2019t ever want them to be fed that rhetoric.\u201d \t<\/p>\n
