The news that this character, <em>who is based on my own personality<\/em> and whom I created as a microphone to spread love and positivity, has been taken and turned into a soulless AI puppet feels like having my intestines pulled out of my body.\u201d  \t<\/p>\n<p> \tBrantz concluded, \u201cSomebody leaked the news to me early on that there were talks happening, and I pleaded with the CEO Jonah Peretti directly not to do it. Instead, he tried to talk me into signing an NDA. Obviously, I did not. This is an assault on artists everywhere. I encourage you to boycott BuzzFeed and any AI-produced or adjacent animation.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure>\n<div>\n<blockquote data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DY2v_qXIoQt\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\"><\/blockquote><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p> \tEarlier Wednesday, Amazon announced that it has greenlit three <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/amazon-orders-three-animated-series-generative-ai-1236606219\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/amazon-orders-three-animated-series-generative-ai-1236606219\/\">projects emerging from its GenAI Creators Fund<\/a>, which will give filmmakers, digital creators and technology startups access to Amazon\u2019s AI tools and funding to produce \u201chigh-quality cinematic entertainment.\u201d  \t<\/p>\n<p> \t<em>Cupcake &#038; Friends<\/em> from Buzzfeed Studios was among the three original animated series that will use Amazon\u2019s Project Nara platform, a new production tool on Amazon Web Services that features AI tools.<\/p>\n<p> \tAlbert Cheng, head of AI Studios for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/amazon-mgm-studios\/\" id=\"auto-tag_amazon-mgm-studios_1\" data-tag=\"amazon-mgm-studios\">Amazon MGM Studios<\/a>, previously told <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> of Project Nara, \u201cWhat it tries to do is it streamlines and facilitates the end-to-end workflows of what we do, but also leverages the existing applications that professionals already know about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \tIn response to Brantz, Jonah Peretti, president of BuzzFeed AI, wrote in a statement shared with <em>THR<\/em>, \u201cWe would have loved for Loryn to be involved as one of the people who worked to bring Cuppy to life while employed full time at BuzzFeed. We shared with her that human creativity would remain at the core of this project, with writing, storytelling, and animation being developed by humans and AI being used as a creation tool to help facilitate that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \t\u201cWe explained that this was similar to Walt Disney embracing Xerox technology to make \u2018inbetweening\u2019 easier \u2014 and that our partners at Amazon MGM Studios share our ethos, with a commitment to ensuring human creativity remains at the center of everything they make,\u201d his statement continued. \u201cHowever, she made it clear that she was categorically opposed to the use of AI in all its forms, and we respected that she did not want to be involved as a result.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \t\u201cThat is absolutely her right.
