\tAfter decades of movie stardom, John Travolta<\/a> has stepped behind the camera for his latest project Propeller One-Way Night Coach<\/em>, an adaptation of his 1997 children\u2019s novel of the same name.<\/p>\n

\tThe hour-long film<\/a> follows a young aviation enthusiast and his mother on a cross-country flight to Hollywood, with Travolta also serving as narrator and making a brief on-camera appearance. The movie has been in the works for years, with others interested in producing and directing it along the way, but Travolta said \u201conly I can connect these dots the way it should be connected\u201d in a story based on his own flying experience. \t<\/p>\n

\tAnd in his directorial debut, the star incorporated what he had learned on sets throughout his career, telling \u30cf\u30ea\u30a6\u30c3\u30c9\u30fb\u30ea\u30dd\u30fc\u30bf\u30fc<\/em> at the L.A. premiere on Thursday, \u201cI feel that in the 50-plus years I\u2019ve watched directors, I\u2019ve watched great ones, I\u2019ve watched good ones, I\u2019ve watched OK ones, I\u2019ve watched mediocre ones and I\u2019ve watched bad ones, and you sift out what they did right, what they did wrong. I only used the successful actions of the great ones \u2014 Robert Altman, Mike Nichols, Quentin Tarantino, Tony Scott, John Woo, Brian De Palma.\u201d <\/p>\n

\tHe sorted through what those greats have in common and noted, \u201cIt\u2019s funny because you let them do all the work for 50 years and you go, \u2018OK, this works, that works, that works, that doesn\u2019t work, that doesn\u2019t work,\u2019 and then you put it in a totality, and then finally you go, \u2018That\u2019s how you direct a movie, that\u2019s what should be done.’\u201d Travolta also revealed that he \u201cshowed an early cut to a very famous person who\u2019s also director and they gave me one note, which was excellent,\u201d but declined to reveal who that very famous person was. \t<\/p>\n

\tNewcomer Clark Shotwell stars as the young boy and Kelly Eviston-Quinnett as his mother, while Travolta\u2019s daughter Ella Bleu Travolta plays a flight attendant aboard the plane. Ella said her father brought excitement and confidence to the set in telling his story, and \u201che knew exactly what he was looking for for all of these performances so he knew exactly what to ask for \u2014 he\u2019d never do more than two or three takes, he knew exactly when he had it.\u201d All five of Travolta\u2019s siblings also appear in the movie, which Ella said was \u201cthe coolest thing ever\u2026 we do plays and shows at home all the time, so now we\u2019re just doing it in a different setting.\u201d <\/p>\n

\tAfter premiering the film at Cannes \u2014 where he received a surprise Palme <\/a>d<\/a>\u2018Or<\/a> \u2014 Travolta has been open that his directing experience may be a one-time thing, having already brought his passion project to life. Looking ahead, he noted how the movie is about always having \u201csomething to look forward to and see the world glass half-full, not half-empty, and that\u2019s how I view life. I still view life that way. So, I\u2019m ready for life to invite me to do something that I might find more interesting than things I\u2019ve done in the past.\u201d <\/p>\n
