\tA sequel to Warner Bros.<\/a> and Legendary\u2019s A Minecraft<\/a> Movie<\/em> has gotten a new title: A Minecraft Movie Squared<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\tIn a joint Instagram post Saturday with the studios and Minecraft, the new official title was revealed. \u201cReady for another adventure?\u202f The world of #Minecraft is expanding once again with\u202f A Minecraft Movie Squared!<\/em>,\u201d the post reads in part. <\/p>\n

\tThe Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/em> previously reported that Jared Hess, who directed last year\u2019s film, is set to return to direct the video game adaptation and is penning the script with Chris Galletta, one of the original scribers. Producers will include Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans \u00d3lafsson and Jason Momoa. \t<\/p>\n

\tMomoa, Jack Black, Sebastian Hansen, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks and Jennifer Coolidge starred in the original movie<\/a>. Kirsten Dunst has joined the sequel. <\/p>\n

\tA Minecraft Movie <\/em>was a huge box office success, grossing $957.8 million globally and became the second highest grossing movie of 2025. <\/p>\n

\tHowever, the film\u2019s reviews were mixed. \u201cThe most disappointing aspect of\u00a0A Minecraft Movie<\/em>, isn\u2019t that it\u2019s born out of an existing IP. We live in a world of low-effort reboots, unnecessary remakes and movies operating as extensions of corporate brands. Another one of these gluttonous projects is hardly surprising. What makes\u00a0A Minecraft Movie<\/em>\u00a0so dispiriting is how it fails to spark the imagination, betraying a core tenet of the game on which it\u2019s based,\u201d reads THR\u2019s<\/em> review<\/a>, before adding, \u201cFor Minecraft novices like this critic,\u00a0A Minecraft Movie<\/em>\u00a0succeeds when showing off the game\u2019s potential and championing the value of maintaining a childlike wonder in a bleak world.\u201d \t<\/p>\n

\tA Minecraft Movie Squared<\/em> is slated to release in theaters July 23, 2027. <\/p>\n
