{"id":2793,"date":"2026-06-02T22:17:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T22:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsmag.live\/2026\/06\/02\/imposters-filmmaker-caleb-phillips-signs-with-underground-exclusive\/"},"modified":"2026-06-02T22:17:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T22:17:00","slug":"imposters-filmmaker-caleb-phillips-signs-with-underground-exclusive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsmag.live\/ja\/2026\/06\/02\/imposters-filmmaker-caleb-phillips-signs-with-underground-exclusive\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Imposters\u2019 Filmmaker Caleb Phillips Signs with Underground (Exclusive)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p> \tRising genre filmmaker Caleb Phillips has signed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/underground\/\" id=\"auto-tag_underground_1\" data-tag=\"underground\">Underground<\/a>, the company that is riding high thanks to client Curry Barker\u2019s box office hit <em>Obsession<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p> \tThe move comes after the South by Southwest premiere of Phillips\u2019 cosmic horror thriller <em>Imposters<\/em>, where it landed an early Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 93 percent out of the fest\u2019s Midnighter section and is generating interest among potential buyers.  <\/p>\n<p> \tPhillips wrote and directed the genre-bending <em>Imposters<\/em>, which stars Jessica Rothe as a mother desperate to get her baby boy back after he is taken. When she learns of a way to get her son home, her husband (Charlie Barnett) begins to suspect the baby that returned is not actually theirs.   \t<\/p>\n<p> \tPhillips first made waves with his short <em>Other Side of the Box<\/em>, which amassed more than 30 million views on YouTube and centered on a couple who is gifted a mysterious box, to disastrous and creepy results. That property feels more relevant than ever in the wake of the outsized success of Kane Parsons\u2019 <em>The Backrooms<\/em>, which began life as a series of popular YouTube shorts and broke A24 records last weekend.<\/p>\n<p> \tPhillips followed it up with the mind-bending short <em>Play Me,<\/em> about a woman who wakes up in a car with no memory and discovers a man tied up in the back, and a voice recorder with a note: \u201cplay me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \tFor <em>Imposters<\/em>, Phillips teamed with producers Thomas Bond, Sara Seligman and Joe Bandelli, with Blue Finch Films repping it for global distribution.
