\tTom Holland<\/a> is pulling double duty this summer by starring in two highly anticipated films: The Odyssey<\/a><\/em> and Spider-Man<\/a>: Brand New Day. <\/em>And he\u2019s revealing how he made sure not to miss Christopher Nolan\u2019s epic.<\/p>\n

\tIn the newest GQ<\/em> cover story<\/a>, alongside The Odyssey<\/em> co-stars Matt Damon and Robert Pattinson, Holland reflected on how he had to call Sony<\/a> Pictures CEO Tom Rothman, which is one of the studios behind the film, and persuaded the studio head to push Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/a>\u2018<\/em>s production so he could film Christopher Nolan\u2019s The Odyssey<\/em> first, as the filming dates conflicted. \t<\/p>\n

\t\u201cI said to Chris, like, \u2018Look, I want to do this movie, but if I\u2019m going to do it, I\u2019m going to have to call Sony and have a very uncomfortable conversation,\u2019\u2009\u201d the 30-year-old actor said.<\/p>\n

\tLuckily for Holland, Rothman agreed.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cI think one of the reasons why Sony were happy to move is because Chris has that reputation of \u2018This movie isn\u2019t going to go five months over, and we aren\u2019t actually going to lose Tom for two years.\u2019 Any other director, it might have been a slightly different conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\tAnd it worked out, since The Odyssey<\/em> finished nine days early. The extra time also allowed the franchise to hire Destin Daniel Cretton<\/a> (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings<\/em>) as its director.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cThe Odyssey<\/em> almost saved Spider-Man<\/em> because we wouldn\u2019t have had Destin. He wouldn\u2019t have been ready to make the movie when we were ready to go. We wouldn\u2019t have had the six-month period to develop the script with Destin to get it to a place where it is now,\u201d he said. \u201cI truly believe that we\u2019ve made the best version of any Spider-Man<\/em> movie going. So while it was a tough pill to swallow for Sony, I think in hindsight, they\u2019re very grateful that it happened.\u201d \t<\/p>\n

\tUp first for Holland is The Odyssey<\/a><\/em>, set to release July 17, following Matt Damon\u2019s Odysseus on a dangerous voyage back to Ithaca after the Trojan War. Holland will play Telemachus, Odysseus\u2019 son.<\/p>\n

\tSpider-Man: Brand New Day<\/a><\/em> is the fourth film in Holland\u2019s lead movies, slated for release on July 31. The film takes place in the aftermath of 2021\u2019s Spider-Man: No Way Home<\/em>, in which Peter Parker\u2019s identity was erased from people\u2019s memories. Holland stars alongside his financ\u00e9e Zendaya and Jon Bernthal in both films.<\/p>\n

\tElsewhere in the GQ <\/em>interview, Pattinson noted that he wanted to read the script before accepting the project, while implying that no one else had.<\/p>\n
