\tScott Pelley<\/a> took to Instagram on Saturday to express gratitude for those who have supported him amid his controversial firing<\/a> from 60\u5206<\/a><\/em>. <\/p>\n

\t\u201cTo all of you who have been so kind, you are the wind in my sails,\u201d the former correspondent wrote in the caption of the post, which featured a photo of himself behind the wheel of a sailboat. \u201cSo deeply grateful.\u201d <\/p>\n

\tPelley was fired on Tuesday after an intense meeting<\/a> with\u00a060\u5206<\/em>\u2018 new executive producer, Nick Bilton, on Monday. In that meeting,\u00a0Pelley argued\u00a0that\u00a0CBS News<\/a>\u00a0editor-in-chief Bari Weiss<\/a> is \u201cmurdering\u00a060\u5206<\/em>. She does not love this place; she was brought in to kill it and is doing exactly that.\u201d \t<\/p>\n

\tAfter the news was announced that he was let go from the flagship newsmagazine, Pelley released a statement<\/a> where he accused Weiss of \u201cincompetence and unprofessionalism,\u201d and claimed that CBS News management \u201cinstructed me to inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story.\u201d<\/p>\n

\t\u201c60<\/em>\u00a0has been the number-one program in America for decades because our beloved audience finds integrity, quality, and humanity in our stories,\u201d Pelley wrote. \u201cNow, the new owner of our network is casting this legend aside, apparently to curry a moment of favor with the Trump administration.\u201d<\/p>\n

\tDuring a Wednesday morning call with staff, Weiss pushed back<\/a> against Pelley, arguing that he broke \u201ctrust and mutual respect.\u201d <\/p>\n

\tPelley\u2019s firing followed the dismissal of EP Tanya Simon and\u00a0correspondents Cecilia Vega<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Sharyn Alfonsi<\/a>. The dismissal of so many mainstay 60\u5206<\/em> producers and correspondents led many to question if Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker and Jon Wertheim, the three remaining correspondents at the show, would also step away. \t<\/p>\n

\tOn Friday, Stahl, Withaker and Wertheim confirmed that they would not be exiting 60\u5206<\/em><\/a>. <\/p>\n

\t\u201cWe feared that our returning might be construed as an endorsement of the existing power structure. That is simply, categorically not the case,\u201d they wrote in a memo to staff. \u201cHere\u2019s why we\u2019re are staying: We don\u2019t want to see\u00a060\u5206<\/em>\u00a0die.\u201d<\/p>\n
