\tIn honor of Ghostbusters Day, which celebrates the June 8 release of the original 1984 film, Sony Pictures held an event in New York City on Saturday at the Fire Department of the City of New York\u2019s (FDNY) Hook & Ladder 8 firehouse. The location has served as the Ghostbusters\u2019 recurring headquarters and real-life filming location<\/a> since the first film. <\/p>\n

\tThere, showrunners Ben Hibon and Elliott Kalan, along with Ghost Corps executive producers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, announced the official title and logo for Netflix<\/a> and Sony Pictures Animation\u2019s upcoming animated Ghostbusters<\/em> series: Ghostbusters: Night Shift<\/em>, expected to release in 2027. \t<\/p>\n

\tReitman and Kenan also recognized the charitable efforts of the yearlong<\/a> \u201cGhostbusters Give Back\u201d initiative, which surpassed its $500,000 fundraising goal. \u201cGolden Trap\u201d awards were presented to the three chapters that raised the most money for local causes: Buffalo Ghostbusters ($67,000), Los Angeles Ghostbusters ($65,000) and Ghostbusters Virginia ($30,000).<\/p>\n

\tA $150,000 matching donation check was also presented by Jay Levine, EVP, Chief Strategy Officer & Business Operations at Sony Pictures, alongside Reitman and Kenan, to Adam Garone, CEO of Starlight Children\u2019s Foundation, on behalf of Sony Pictures, Starlight Children\u2019s Foundation and \u201cGhostbusters Give Back.\u201d Additionally, all proceeds from the event benefited the FDNY Foundation.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cAt Sony Pictures we\u2019re incredibly proud of the lasting impact of the Ghostbusters <\/em>franchise and the amazing fan community that continues to support it,\u201d Levine said at the event Saturday. \u201cThe spirit of Ghostbusters<\/em> has always been about helping others and answering the call when people need you. You have volunteered, raised money, supported causes and brought joy to communities everywhere.\u201d \t<\/p>\n

\tIvan Reitman\u2019s classic starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson as a team of parapsychologists who launch a ghost-catching business in New York City. The film earned nearly $300 million at the global box office and spawned four follow-up films: Ghostbusters II<\/em> (1989), Ghostbusters: Answer the Call<\/em> (2016), Ghostbusters: Afterlife<\/em> (2021) and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire<\/em> (2024).<\/p>\n
