Haffey\/Getty Images)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"h-a-tragedy-compounded\">A tragedy compounded<\/h2>\n<p>On Saturday, May 30, a shooting took place in the 4900 block of Gardena Avenue in San Diego, California.<\/p>\n<p>The victim was 17-year-old Jariah Edwards, as identified in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/support-for-jariah-edwards-family-newborn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">crowdfunding campaign<\/a> that her family has launched.<\/p>\n<p>Jariah was approximately 32 weeks pregnant when she was shot in the head.<\/p>\n<p>First responders found her unresponsive at around 1:10 AM.<\/p>\n<p>Despite efforts to save her, Jariah was pronounced dead at a local hospital.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p> <iframe title=\"Baby delivered via emergency C-section following mother's fatal shooting taken off life support\" width=\"422\" height=\"750\" data-cookieconsent=\"statistics, marketing\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lqXXCWFLz9g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen loading=\"lazy\"><\/iframe><div class=\"cookieconsent-optout-statistics cookieconsent-optout-marketing\">Please accept <a href=\"javascript:Cookiebot.renew()\">statistics, marketing<\/a> cookies to watch this video.<\/div> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Jariah was from Arizona, and had only traveled to San Diego with family, staying at a short-term rental.<\/p>\n<p>Her child was delivered via C-section even as she died.<\/p>\n<p>However, on June 7 \u2014 over a week after Jariah\u2019s killing \u2014 the infant died.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of death was severe hypoxic brain injury.<\/p>\n<p>Hypoxia is when one receives insufficient oxygen. In this case, it was fatal. The men who create teenage moms tend to be adult men.<\/p>\n<p>And, according to the San Diego Police Department, he traveled to San Diego \u2014 separately from her and her family \u2014 via rideshare.<\/p>\n<p>SDPD says that he lured her to come out of her family\u2019s rental using flowers.<\/p>\n<p>Then, authorities say, he shot her in the head and fled. He was arrested at around 3 AM, not even two hours after Jariah was found.<\/p>\n<p>Williams is facing charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, possession or transportation of a machine gun, and discharging a firearm. It is likely that the charges will change, and not in his favor.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors already have possession of recordings in which Williams seemingly confessed. The court also heard evidence that, prior to her murder, Jariah planned to file for a restraining order against her ex.<\/p>\n<p>Williams\u2019 next hearing is on June 12.
