Jessa Duggar<\/a> shared a handwritten letter, allegedly from her almost-11-year-old son.<\/p>\n

There are multiple oddities about it, including that the writing level appears to belong to someone much younger.<\/p>\n

Is it just a really old letter? Or is Jessa\u2019s homeschooling failing her children<\/a> even worse than fans thought?<\/p>\n

Does this look right to anyone?<\/h2>\n

Earlier this month, Jessa shared a series of \u30a4\u30f3\u30b9\u30bf\u30b0\u30e9\u30e0<\/a> photos that she had snapped during the month of May.<\/p>\n

One pic featured all six of her children together.<\/p>\n

Another showed husband Ben Seewald with a variety of ice cream in his cart during a shopping trip to Walmart.<\/p>\n

However, one item \u2014 easily overlooked by someone just looking for pics of her and her family \u2014 stood out from the others.<\/p>\n

It was a letter, written in marker, allegedly from Spurgeon, her 10-year-old son. (He turns 11 this autumn!)<\/p>\n

The seventh image features a once-folded note that includes what appear to be multiple pixelated flower stickers.<\/p>\n

\u201cDear Jessa,\u201d the words in pink marker begin. \u201cDear Jessa, Thank you for taking care of me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The letter adds: \u201cAlso thank you for doing homeschool. I know it\u2019s hard for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

As if distracting himself, he apparently wrote: \u201cAlso your sourdough bread is so good. We should make it again sometime.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adorably, his letter concludes: \u201cI wish I could buy you flowers. Love, Spurgeon.\u201d<\/p>\n

What\u2019s wrong with this picture? Possibly, so much.<\/h2>\n

People on Reddit and beyond have expressed their shock and concern over this letter, so let\u2019s break it down.<\/p>\n

First up, it\u2019s odd to read a member of the infamous Duggar clan refer to his mother by her name.<\/p>\n

Some families do that. But overall, the Duggars and Seewalds seem more like those creepy families where people unironically call their parents \u201cma\u2019am\u201d and \u201csir\u201d as if it were normal.<\/p>\n

Him thanking her for taking care of him is normal for a child. It\u2019s not necessary<\/em>, because parents have a duty to take care of their children, but it\u2019s a precious sentiment and very normal.<\/p>\n

Spurgeon thanking Jessa for homeschooling him instead of allowing him to get a real education is more sad than anything else. Like his mother and most of his extended family, he has no idea what he\u2019s being deprived of.<\/p>\n

There is no date on the paper. It is possible that this is a letter from, say, 3-4 years ago, when the letter would be more developmentally appropriate.<\/p>\n

If Spurgeon were attending an actual school \u2014 where he\u2019d get to socialize with peers, be taught by professionals, and learn about the world \u2014 he\u2019d very likely be a rising fifth grader.<\/p>\n

By this age, most children are developmentally able to print neatly (or write in cursive if someone makes them, for some reason), writing elaborate stories containing original ideas.<\/p>\n

Perhaps this is a Mother\u2019s Day card. Perhaps this is an old letter-writing practice from when he was 6 or 7, in which case the large and uneasy printing of letters makes sense.<\/p>\n

If Jessa wants to reassure fans that she\u2019s qualified to teach her children (she is not), she could show a more recent writing project from her 10-and-a-half-year-old.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
