\tFX<\/a>\u2018s \u5927\u4eba<\/a><\/em> is getting a prequel.<\/p>\n

\tThe FX comedy will release, later this summer but prior to the August drop of season two, a standalone episode, titled \u201cMarathon Day,\u201d that will introduce the friend group and provide the origin story for Jack Innanen<\/a>\u2018s Paul Baker. <\/p>\n

\tThe full episode, written by series creators Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw and directed by Jonathan Krisel, will be available on Friday, July 31, on FXX and Hulu<\/a> at 1 p.m. ET\/10 a.m. PT and will also receive a limited release on Hulu\u2019s YouTube channel and FX\u2019s TikTok and Instagram channels. \t<\/p>\n

\tThe episode also premiered at the Tribeca<\/a> Festival in New York on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cWe\u2019re so excited for the opportunity to show fans how this friend group came to be,\u201d Kronengold and Shaw said in a statement.\u00a0\u201cWe love a good origin story, and we can\u2019t wait for you to see where the radioactive spider bit Paul Baker.\u201d<\/p>\n

\t\u5927\u4eba<\/em>, which received acclaim for its first season released last summer, follows a twenty-something group of friends in New York trying to navigate love, work, friendship and family all while living together in Samir\u2019s (Malik Elassal) childhood home. In addition to Innanen and Elassal, \u5927\u4eba<\/em> stars Lucy Freyer, Amita Rao and Owen Thiele.<\/p>\n

\tThe \u5927\u4eba<\/em> prequel is the latest such standalone episode released for an FX comedy after The Bear<\/em> last month surprise dropped<\/a> an hourlong prequel episode \u201cGary,\u201d following Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Mikey (Jon Bernthal) on a trip to Indiana.<\/p>\n

\t\u5927\u4eba<\/em> is set to return for season two on Thursday, Aug. 27. The full eight-episode second season will be available on Hulu and FXX on demand on Aug. 27, with two episodes airing each week on FXX. \t<\/p>\n

\tFX shared the following synopsis for \u5927\u4eba<\/em> season two: \u201cOver eight episodes, the housemates tackle a new set of real-world questions. What if the 20-year-old who inherited your fake ID is cooler than you ever were, and younger than you\u2019ll ever be again? How do you explain to your friends that you actually love your boring office job? Why does being around your family make you regress into your worst self? And how do you ask for things to change, when you also need everything to stay the same? Together, the friends weave intricate webs of multi-player strategy just to avoid hurting someone else\u2019s feelings. They invent elaborate workarounds for problems they\u2019re too afraid to face head-on. It\u2019s not so much that they keep learning the same lessons \u2013 it\u2019s that they keep finding new ways to make mistakes. But the one thing they consistently get right: showing up for each other.\u00a0\u201c<\/p>\n
