\tJohn Fogerty<\/a> is next in line for a biopic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\tWhile attending the 55th annual Songwriters Hall of Fame<\/a> on Thursday night in New York City, Fogerty spoke with The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>, <\/em>exclusively sharing an update on the project. <\/p>\n

\t\u201cI\u2019m really excited about it. That\u2019s such an honor, to get a movie made about you,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m thrilled and happy that this is finally going to come out. I think they\u2019re working on it. That\u2019s about all I can say.\u201d<\/p>\n

\tMusic<\/a> biopics have long been popular in Hollywood, but the genre has surged over the past decade. Audiences have seen some of music\u2019s biggest figures portrayed onscreen, including Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody,<\/em> Austin Butler as Elvis Presley in Elvis, <\/em>Naomi Ackie as Whitney Houston in Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody, <\/em>Jennifer Hudson as Aretha Franklin in Respect,<\/em> Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown<\/em> and most recently, Jaafar Jackson as his uncle Michael Jackson in Michael.<\/em> \t<\/p>\n

\tWhen asked who he\u2019d want to play him in a film about the \u201cCenterfield\u201d singer\u2019s life, Fogerty quipped, \u201cI don\u2019t even know,\u201d before adding, \u201cI used to joke, \u2018Oh, Brad Pitt!\u2019<\/p>\n

\t\u201cYears ago, probably in the middle of all the dark times, I would tell people, \u2018Someday they\u2019re going to make a movie about me, but I\u2019ll be too old to play myself.\u2019 It\u2019s kind of like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz <\/em>singing about someday.\u201d<\/p>\n

\t\u201cWhoever they find that makes it work, I\u2019ll be happy with,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

\tThe 81-year-old added that the film\u2019s team has \u201cbeen down the road\u201d on casting, but \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019m allowed to say much more.\u201d Fogerty also told THR <\/em>that the script is currently being written. \t<\/p>\n

\tOn Thursday night, Fogerty was at the Songwriters Hall of Fame<\/a> to accept the Johnny Mercer Award, the organization\u2019s highest honor.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cI\u2019m kind of overwhelmed about the whole thing,\u201d he told THR<\/em>. \u201cYou write music, write songs because you have to. I mean, you\u2019re just compelled to do it. And the fact that Johnny Mercer has his name on it \u2014 he\u2019s one of my favorites, a really, really great songwriter. So I have kind of a reverence about the whole thing. I\u2019m not sure I quite understand it all, but it feels pretty good.\u201d<\/p>\n

\tAs for who he was most looking forward to seeing, Fogerty gushed about being a Swiftie. The two share a connection through their battles to gain ownership of their music. Fogerty has previously spoken about being inspired<\/a> by Taylor Swift\u2019s successful re-recording strategy as he sought to reclaim control of his own catalog.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cI\u2019d love to talk to Taylor Swift for a minute or two. I know she\u2019s the biggest artist in the world. I think she\u2019s probably kind of busy, but we\u2019ve got a bit of history. Me and my family, especially my daughter Lyndsay, have been Swift fans since she was about 7,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cWe listened to her every day driving to school and driving back,\u201d he added. \u201cEvery time a record came out, we\u2019d wait patiently, put it in the CD player in the car and talk about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
