Craig Zahler\u2019s gangster thriller <em>The Bookie &#038; The Bruiser,<\/em> which recently completed production in Canada.<\/p>\n<p> \t<em>The Copenhagen Test <\/em>actor plays the role of\u00a0Eli Hirschbaum, the owner and operator of Hirschbaum\u2019s Drugstore, an old-fashioned \u201csoda jerk\u201d and pharmacist in 1959-era New York City. Hirschbaum is a father figure for Rivner, a Jewish veteran played by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/theo-james\/\" id=\"auto-tag_theo-james_1\" data-tag=\"theo-james\">Theo James<\/a>, and Boscolo, a tough Italian-American from the Lower East Side played by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/vince-vaughn\/\" id=\"auto-tag_vince-vaughn_1\" data-tag=\"vince-vaughn\">Vince Vaughn<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p> \tBoth Rivner and Boscolo struggle to return to civilian life after the Second World War and build a thriving underground gambling operation that attracts dangerous attention from organized crime groups. <em>The Bookie &#038; The Bruiser<\/em> is produced by Anthony Katagas of Keep Your Head Productions and Dave Caplan.  C2 Motion Picture Group is financing the project.  \t<\/p>\n<p> \tRubinek\u00a0over a four decade career has credits like Ethan Coen\u2019s <em>The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,<\/em> Clint Eastwood\u2019s <em>Unforgiven,<\/em> Tony Scott and Quentin Tarantino\u2019s <em>True Romance,<\/em> Oliver Stone\u2019s <em>Wall Street <\/em>and over 60 other feature films.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> \tHis TV credits include series regular roles in <em>Hunters, Frasier <\/em>and <em>Warehouse 13,<\/em> as well as guest-starring roles in <em>Billions, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel <\/em>and <em>Grey\u2019s Anatomy.<\/em> Rubinek also directed two films produced by his wife and producing partner Elinor Reid \u2014 <em>Jerry and Tom, <\/em>starring Joe Mantegna and Sam Rockwell, and the indie film <em>Cruel But Necessary.<\/em><\/p>\n<p> \tHe also directed two films for Paramount and Showtime, <em>Bleacher Bums,<\/em> a film adaptation of the play about Chicago Cubs baseball fans, and <em>Club Land,<\/em> starring Alan Alda.
