The judge has revoked his release, ordering him to surrender to authorities.<\/p>\n<figure><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"654\" alt=\"A Carnival Cruise ship, Splendor.\"   src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thehollywoodgossip.com\/uploads\/2026\/06\/0616_carnivalcruise_01-scaled.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-trellis-processed=\"1\"><figcaption>A Carnival Cruise ship in the process of being towed.<span> (Photo Credit: Kevork Djansezian\/Getty Images)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"h-she-died-by-homicide-last-november\">She died by homicide last November<\/h2>\n<p>On November 2 of 2025, 18-year-old Anna took a fateful family trip aboard the Carnival Cruise Line\u2019s Horizon.<\/p>\n<p>She was with her father, Christopher Kepner, his new wife, Shauntel Hudson, and Shauntel\u2019s son, 16-year-old Timothy Hudson. Also in the group were two half-siblings and a younger step-sister.<\/p>\n<p>Anna was last seen alive on the night of November 6.<\/p>\n<p>The next morning, she was found dead under her bed, wrapped in a blanket and \u201chidden\u201d with life vests.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI investigated. The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner\u2019s Office determined that her cause of death was mechanical asphyxiation \u2014 an arm placed across her throat. That has now changed.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p> <iframe title=\"Stepbrother ordered into custody after violent cruise ship death\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-cookieconsent=\"statistics, marketing\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/n_O2vQ3E17Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen loading=\"lazy\"><\/iframe><div class=\"cookieconsent-optout-statistics cookieconsent-optout-marketing\">Please accept <a href=\"javascript:Cookiebot.renew()\">statistics, marketing<\/a> cookies to watch this video.<\/div> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"h-timothy-hudson-will-be-tried-as-an-adult\">Timothy Hudson will be tried as an adult<\/h2>\n<p>On Monday, June 15, Hudson surrendered to US Marshals at the direction of Judge Edwin Torres.<\/p>\n<p>The judge had reviewed existing evidence in the case.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/anna-kepner-stepbrother-off-house-arrest-into-custody-until-murder-trial-11998929\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">People<\/a> <\/em>reported that the judge found that the prosecution\u2019s \u201ccase for a forcible rape is beyond clear and convincing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The judge noted that the evidence \u201csuggests a level of psychopathy and lack of remorse that by itself raises a serious concern that [Hudson] can snap at any time, despite the well-meaning and serious efforts of his caretakers to make sure that does not happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hudson is of course, legally speaking, innocent until proven guilty. Prison doesn\u2019t make anyone better, and neither does jail. Whenever possible, it\u2019s better to find an alternative.)<\/p>\n<p>There are, however, exceptions. Whether it\u2019s fascists and collaborators in a few years as we retake our federal government, or someone who has shown a propensity for remorseless violence on a smaller scale, some people need to be behind bars as a matter of public good and personal safety.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s likely that Judge Torres did not make this ruling lightly.<\/p>\n<p>If anything, this ruling is a preview of the level and severity of the physical evidence that investigators have recovered and processed.
