\tMatthew Lillard<\/a> is crediting his recent resurgence in Hollywood to nostalgia.<\/p>\n

\tThe 56-year-old actor, best known for his 90s and early 2000s roles in the live-action Scooby-Doo<\/em>\u00a0films and the Scream<\/em> franchise, opened up on the Phase Hero<\/em> podcast <\/a>about why he feels he\u2019s been booking more roles recently. <\/p>\n

\t\u201cScooby-Doo<\/em> one and two are more popular now than they ever were when they came out. So I do think there\u2019s a weird nostalgia thing happening in our industry and in the zeitgeist because I think that people are longing for ye olde times,\u201d Lillard explained. \u201cI think that\u2019s one of the reasons I\u2019m having this moment to be honest, is because I was identified in that moment, so people are hiring me again.\u201d \t<\/p>\n

\t\u201cI think that\u2019s why I\u2019m working. I don\u2019t think anyone really likes me. They just miss the old times,\u201d he added with a laugh. \u201cWho should we get? Who\u2019s old and relatively warm and fuzzy feeling? Let\u2019s get Matthew Lillard. Talented? No. But do we like him? Yes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\tIn the last few years, the actor has seen a surge in roles across film and television, including in the Five Nights at Freddy\u2019s<\/em> franchise, his return as Stu Macher in Scream 7<\/em>, and the shows Cross<\/em> and Daredevil: Born Again<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\tIt\u2019s especially been a nice reward after Quentin Tarantino\u2019s viral comments, criticizing Lillard\u2019s acting abilities<\/a>. While also bashing Paul Dano during an interview on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast<\/em> in December, the filmmaker added, \u201cI\u2019m not saying he\u2019s giving a terrible performance. I\u2019m saying he\u2019s giving a non-entity [performance]. I don\u2019t care for him. I don\u2019t care for\u00a0Owen Wilson, I don\u2019t care for\u00a0Matthew Lillard.\u201d \t<\/p>\n

\tThough Tarantino\u2019s harsh words stung <\/a>at first, Lillard later told People<\/em><\/a> that it made him realize how many fans and other industry icons appreciate him.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cIt felt like I had died and was in heaven watching everyone send out their RIP tweets. I mean, it was really being a part of your own wake, sort of sitting there living through all the nice things people say after you die,\u201d the actor said. \u201cEveryone, from the people at the mall this weekend with my kids to George Clooney and James Gunn and Mike Flanagan, I mean, people have sort of been really generous with telling me how much they loved me and liked my work.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
