So I do think there\u2019s a weird nostalgia thing happening in our industry and in the zeitgeist because I think that people are longing for ye olde times,\u201d Lillard explained. \u201cI think that\u2019s one of the reasons I\u2019m having this moment to be honest, is because I was identified in that moment, so people are hiring me again.\u201d  \t<\/p>\n<p> \t\u201cI think that\u2019s why I\u2019m working. I don\u2019t think anyone really likes me. They just miss the old times,\u201d he added with a laugh. \u201cWho should we get? Who\u2019s old and relatively warm and fuzzy feeling? Let\u2019s get Matthew Lillard. Talented? No. But do we like him? Yes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \tIn the last few years, the actor has seen a surge in roles across film and television, including in the <em>Five Nights at Freddy\u2019s<\/em> franchise, his return as Stu Macher in <em>Scream 7<\/em>, and the shows <em>Cross<\/em> and <em>Daredevil: Born Again<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p> \tIt\u2019s especially been a nice reward after Quentin Tarantino\u2019s viral comments, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/quentin-tarantino-paul-dano-weakest-actor-there-will-be-blood-1236441966\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/quentin-tarantino-paul-dano-weakest-actor-there-will-be-blood-1236441966\/\">criticizing Lillard\u2019s acting abilities<\/a>. While also bashing Paul Dano during an interview on <em>The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast<\/em> in December, the filmmaker added, \u201cI\u2019m not saying he\u2019s giving a terrible performance. I\u2019m saying he\u2019s giving a non-entity [performance]. I don\u2019t care for him. I don\u2019t care for\u00a0Owen Wilson, I don\u2019t care for\u00a0Matthew Lillard.\u201d  \t<\/p>\n<p> \tThough Tarantino\u2019s harsh words <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/matthew-lillard-quentin-tarantino-acting-fucking-sucks-1236444119\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/matthew-lillard-quentin-tarantino-acting-fucking-sucks-1236444119\/\">stung <\/a>at first, <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/matthew-lillard-reacts-quentin-tarantino-criticism-1236513149\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/matthew-lillard-reacts-quentin-tarantino-criticism-1236513149\/\">Lillard later told <em>People<\/em><\/a> that it made him realize how many fans and other industry icons appreciate him.<\/p>\n<p> \t\u201cIt felt like I had died and was in heaven watching everyone send out their RIP tweets.
