The series is set for a global <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/disney\/\" id=\"auto-tag_disney_1\" data-tag=\"disney\">Disney+<\/a> launch in 2027.  <\/p>\n<p> \tA time-bending fantasy about three petty criminals who hide out in a derelict general store after a botched heist, only to begin receiving letters seeking advice from strangers writing from decades in the past, the novel has been adapted twice before for the screen \u2014 by Ryuichi Hiroki for a 2017 Japanese feature, and by Han Jie that same year for a Chinese-language version starring Jackie Chan as the kindly shop owner.  \t<\/p>\n<p> \tRyu Seung-ryong will headline the new Korean series as Go Min-joong, the elderly shop owner whose replies to mysterious letters set off a chain of connections across decades. The role is the actor\u2019s third major Disney+ collaboration, following his star turn in 2023 superhero thriller <em>Moving<\/em> \u2014 the streamer\u2019s biggest Korean original to date \u2014 and the 1970s crime caper <em>Low Life<\/em>, currently streaming.<\/p>\n<p> \tThe trio of young thieves at the story\u2019s center will be played by rising newcomers Kang You-seok (<em>Resident Playbook<\/em>), Park Jung-woo (<em>20th Century Girl<\/em>) and Kim Seong-jeong (<em>The Woodcutter and the Fairy<\/em>). The supporting ensemble is studded with popular Korean drama talent, including Kim Hye-yoon (<em>Lovely Runner<\/em>), Moon Sang-min (<em>Pavane<\/em>) and Lee Chae-min (<em>Bon App\u00e9tit, Your Majesty<\/em>), with reported special appearances coming from Yum Jung-ah, Yeom Hye-ran, Jung Chae-yeon and Jang Dong-yoon.  \t<\/p>\n<p> \tPark Young-ju, known for her 2024 true-crime hit <em>Citizen of a Kind<\/em> \u2014 a comedic underdog thriller starring Ra Mi-ran as a real-life laundromat owner who took down a voice-phishing scam ring \u2014 both directs and wrote the adapted scripts. The series is produced by The Lamp, the Korean shingle behind Jang Hoon\u2019s contemporary classic <em>A Taxi Driver<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p> \tThe pickup comes amid a renewed push by Disney+ to begin to close the K-drama gap with Netflix, which has spent the better part of a decade locking down output deals with Korea\u2019s leading studios and turning the country into one of its most important content engines.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> \tLast November\u2019s Disney+ Originals Preview event in Hong Kong unveiled a sprawling 2026 lineup headlined by <em>Made in Korea<\/em> \u2014 the prestige period crime drama starring Hyun Bin and Jung Woo-sung that the streamer renewed for a second season before the first had even aired \u2014 alongside the IU and Byeon Woo-seok royal romance <em>Perfect Crown<\/em>, crime-action thriller <em>Gold Land<\/em> (Park Bo-young, Kim Sung-cheol), supernatural webtoon adaptation <em>Portraits of Delusion<\/em> (Suzy, Kim Seon-ho), epic fantasy <em>The Remarried Empress<\/em> (Shin Min-a, Ju Ji-hoon, Lee Se-young, Lee Jong-suk) and a second season of action-thriller <em>A Shop for Killers<\/em>.
